The Berlin Tasting Anniversary Celebrations had a Grand Finale in Canada

Two high-end events carried out in Montreal and Toronto, were the perfect finale for this whole year celebrating the blind tasting initiative’s 10 years of trajectory.

The last phase of the world-tour launched this year to celebrate ten years of The Berlin Tasting had a grand finale with two Black-Tie Gala Dinners, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Montreal and the Shangri-La Hotel in Toronto –in partnership with Vintages–, on October 29 and 30 respectively, hosted by Mr. Eduardo Chadwick, President of Viña Errázuriz and Viña Seña.

Commemorating the blind tasting initiative that toured over 15 nations during the last decade –included a visit to Canada in 2006– and established Chile’s place amongst the world’s greatest appellations, around 80 VIP guests at each event enjoyed the opportunity to taste select vintages of the Chilean Icon wines that participated in the Berlin Tastings held around the world over the past 10 years, including Don Maximiano, Viñedo Chadwick, Seña, and KAI wines.

“The Berlin Tasting has reached the heights of a true milestone thanks to the consistent recognition granted by top connoisseurs worldwide,” said Eduardo Chadwick, who added, “We are grateful to have been able to return to Canada, as well as to other historical venues for the Berlin Tasting around the world, in order to commemorate and celebrate this ten-year journey with so many of them.”

In addition to Toronto and Montreal, the Berlin Tasting 10th Anniversary world-tour celebration began in March with events in Asia; then it moved on to Europe (London, Copenhagen and Zurich) and the Vinexpo Asia Pacific Hong Kong in May; to finally reach the American continent, with an earlier visit to Sao Paulo, Brazil, on mid-October.

  • I don’t think he was expecting at all to do as well as he did, but I think having done it, it was an educational experience further than he had planned, because instead of just educating the 40 or 50 people in the room, he educated the entire world.

  • When Eduardo and I first discussed the concept of this blind tasting format, I told him to brace himself for disappointment, especially given the popularity of Bordeaux reds in this part of the world. I was completely wrong in my warning and I am truly surprised by the results…

  • Until that point only Eduardo knew what he had in his hands. Today the whole world knows… By reaching indisputable recognition in the world wine scene, Eduardo Chadwick’s wines have clearly demonstrated Chile’s tremendous vitivinicultural potential and have helped Chilean wines earn greater space and credibility in the international market.

  • These tastings definitely have had an impact on how many influential members of the American wine trade view Chile today. So I see them as invaluable to promoting Chile’s well- deserved image as a source for world-class wine that can sit alongside the best that the rest of the world has to offer.

  • One enterprising Chilean wine producer, Eduardo Chadwick of Viña Errázuriz, has managed to organise a similar evolutionary milestone for the Chilean wine industry—or at least of his own wines… at what will doubtless come to be known in the history of Chilean wine as the “Berlin Tasting”
